Clarens

A fresh new year demands a fresh new route. For 2014 we've gone through the routes, re-scouting, re-mapping and discovering new incredible areas, leading to brand new incredible routes.

Brand new camping is available close to the venue, accommodating up to 200 people. Please see details below under accommodation.

Clarens is a beautiful part of the world and is also nice and central for many up-country riders. Being just 3hrs away from Johannesburg, Bloemfontein and Pietermaritzburg no reason to miss this beautiful event, so make sure you are there for this inaugural event. Situated in the Eastern Free State, Clarens is such a scenic and wonderful place that it is a big source of inspiration for many artists. For the last three years the event caused quite a stir, as it was said that the route is on world standards, completely blew everyone away!

The route is probably the most visually appealing and varied but challenging one that we have ever put together. It follows sand road, jeep track, huge rock-trails and single track over some of the most incredible rock landscapes in this country. This is all virgin land for mountain bikers as most of it is private land, so don't miss this opportunity. Home to various types of wildlife so you are guaranteed to see some around.

Clarens is a circular loop race; it will start in the Clarens Town Square, Clarens, Free State and finish at the same venue. This spectacular route crosses the Maluti Mountains on the edge of the Lesthoto border, which is the highest mountain range in South Africa. The race has been in existence for 5 years and has grown tremendously the riding is absolutely unique and spectacular. Bring the family and make a weekend of this event in the picturesque town of Clarens, featuring art galleries, gift shops and some of the best food in the country!

ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS

The NISSAN Half-Marathon will see the ever popular return of the 2012 route. We've tweaked and trimmed the route to 48km, with new single track and less gravel roads making it better flowing and even more exciting! Riders will climb up to the top of the ever popular "Caravan Berg" and back down on the legendary single track slick rock.

If you're a Marathon distance racer you're in for a treat for 2014! With only about 12km of the same route as previous years expect the unexpected! Slick rock climbs and descents with spectacular views down gorges and sculptured rock formations from antiquity. Riders will love the last 11km of single-track down the porcupine trail to the finish.

The Ultra will be a combination of the Marathon & Half-marathon routes.

A 10km route is also new for 2014 accompaning our popular 20km distance. Bring the family and enjoy what only Clarens can offer!
